Samson designed replacement arches for selected intersections along Main Street in Russell, Manitoba. The new weathering steel arches replace the original glulam wood structures that failed in 2016. The design aimed to activate public space, celebrate local culture, and support economic revitalization. Paying tribute to the original arches, the new structures maintain a similar form and span across the intersections. Crafted from weathering steel, they develop a stable, protective rust patina over time. Ultimately, the arches serve as a lasting reflection of Russell’s history and cultural identity.
